APRIL ARTWALK AND LOVE

I began the first Saturday artwalk like any other, by eating a small salad (organic lettuce, of course), putting on my rollerblades, and taking 4 hits of acid. I don't like to be a braggart, but I'm pretty much a badass on my rollerblades, and Saturday was no exception. I tore shit up on my glide to downtown, I even took out my braids and let my hair blow in the breeze.

My first stop was the Naked Lounge to see a show called "WOODWORK AND LOVE" by some guy named Weston Thompson. I rolled to the back of the room, entranced by a large psychedelic skull with a gold tooth, and got up close and personal with the woodwork and love.

The paintings inspired more lust than love; maybe it's just me.

have you ever carved initials into a tree to declare your love? Have you ever carved an entire tree into a totem to declare your devotion? Thompson's woodwork contains both qualities and combines the ancient tools of fire and wood with computers and lasers. Thompson is a 21st century caveman carving in a digital tree, attempting to understand and represent his primal instincts in the context of the modern day.
