Just a Spoon?

Every semester I ask all my students to draw a spoon on an index card. Why a spoon you say? Well, I had a theory a while back that advances in digital image making tools like 3d modeling and motion graphics could change the way we visualize images in our minds. If you ask a person to draw a cow they would likely draw a simple profile shot similar to the animal cards we see as kids. Profile shots can be the quickest way to identify something, and they seem to be the most common. Two dimensional image making has ruled the world for ages, but recently computer software has changed the way we create imagery. We are forced to think about objects in three dimensions, that is x,y,& z. Could this change the way we imagine? Spoons are pretty sterile and basic, and generally everyone has seen one. I have posted a bunch for you to look at. You will notice that one, my theory is rubbish, and two that a spoon is not just a spoon. Some are mysterious, some technical, some conceptual, some strong, some soft, some humorous, some ridiculous, some quiet, some loud, some sexy, and some everywhere in between.
