Robin Dutra Trio

Robin has always been a huge fan of music and singing from the heart.  She grew up in a family surrounded by soulful ladies that inspired her to keep pursuing her love of singing. Robin's career of performing started in 1994 in the small town of Chico, located in Northern California. There she met up with a group of growing talented musicians forming the band Friday Night Simon. Robin has also worked on projects with other known Chico band. In 1991 she provided vocals, performing live with Brutilicus Maximus. In 2001 she joined up with the popular funk band Electric Circus, providing back up vocals at live shows as well as recording back-up vocals on their album Changing Faces. In 2002 she was asked by Lee Simpson to compose and record back up vocals for a few select songs on his latest album released in 2002. Robin has sat in on other local bands in Chico, including another one of Chico's favorites, Loose Booty. Through the years Robin has never been shy to perform solo. Give her a guitar and she'll start singing in your living room.  With their breaks now and then, Friday Night Simon's music is stronger than ever. With all the years combined with Friday Night Simon, the past couple of years have been Robin's most proud years with them; creating music that fits their unique style.

Marquesa

Hawaiian-born turned Northern California native, Marquesa Kilikina Versola (you can just call her Kes), has become the darling of her hometown. Recently she was crowned Chico Idol, but many locals know her as the soulful front-woman for Funk Frequency and Loose Booty, the country co-crooner of Gallica Rose, first-call session vocalist and backup singer, sultry jazz lounger, voice teacher, and coffeeshop troubador. But it’s not her versatility, her commanding stage presence, or numerous accolades that make first time listeners raise their brows incredulously and ask, “Who Is this?” Her voice is unmistakable. With a haunting purity akin to Alison Krauss, the melismatic flexibility of Ella Fitzgerald, and a range of expression that draws few comparisons, perhaps Joni Mitchell, Kes only has to open her mouth to seduce an audience to pin-drop silence. Colorful finger-picked guitar chords and image-invoking poeticism are the canvas on which she paints melodic landscapes in self-penned songs such as Complication and Shadow Room. This Folk-meets-Funk songwriter is armed with searing vocals, a few albums worth of praiseworthy songs, and a huge local fanbase to boot. It won’t be long before Versola rises to the top of radio station playlists and headlines sold-out shows across the country.

Karen Joy Brown

For the past four years, singer songwriter Karen Joy Brown has surprised and delighted local fans and media with what the Chico News and Review calls her deeply soulful voice. Terre Reynolds of KZFR Face the Music describes her as having the whole package..a beautiful voice, can play well, and writes beautiful songs. But what new listeners invariably attest is that it is almost impossible to hear her sing without being struck by her singular ability to express emotion through her uniquely rich voice. If her mesmerizing vocals deliver poetry that seems to know you, then the guileless folk-funk guitar will make you feel like everything's gonna be alright. With simple, sincere arrangements of originals and well-chosen covers ranging from the Police to Patsy Cline, Brown transforms everyday events into stories that enchant, seduce, and inspire.
