Description:

On May 15, 5-7 p.m., Avenue 9 Gallery will open its exhibition “Yes We Can!” unveiling the works by the founding members of its new arts collective whose media include painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, fiber, glass, wood, and book arts. The approach of Avenue 9 Gallery to hard economic times has been to form an alliance of artists who will together contribute to the gallery's well established goals of artistic excellence and community outreach. The strength garnered through the new art guild has allowed the gallery to expand instead of retrenching to help keep the visual arts alive and flourishing in Chico. “’Yes We Can!’ represents a tremendously optimistic view and projection of all that an art gallery can be.” says Gallery Director Maria Phillips. “The artists in this show evince big city talent, aspirations, and promotional energy. They are a fraction of the tremendous wealth of creativity found in Chico Visual artists. The gallery expansion is gorgeous and the show looks great!” In alphabetical order, the founding members of the artist’s guild are Phyllis Cullen (fiber art, watercolor, and photography) Michael Diven (acrylic, collage, and oil pastel) Eva Farley (watercolor and acrylic) Lenn Goldmann (oils and watercolors) Kathleen Lawrence-Davis (pastel & oil) Anne Gottlieb (acrylic, pastel) David Mallory (oil and watercolor) Vincent Milosevich (sculptural caro walnut furniture) Michele Miller (photography) Dolores Mitchell (oil, water & mixed media) Barbara Morris (oil, photography) Dori Murnieks (acrylic) Bob O'Neill (sculpture in marble and alabaster) Naty Osa (children’s book) Ann Pierce (water media) Maria Phillips (mixed media) Claudia Schwartz (art glass) David Shimamoto (art glass) Richard Whitehead (oil & acrylic) Frank Wilson (gouache and oil) Chris Yates (Porcelain) For more information on the exhibition or the guild, call the Avenue 9 Gallery at 530-879-1821
